Teacher Tube Rocks!

Hey, everyone! I've been surfing my internet tools. I think I haven't surfed the net enough compared to the three of you. I was watching Mr. Duey rap fractions. Even though it took a while to watch because the video stopped every so often. It was very cool, indeed! Can you imagine the possibilities? I can just picture Kate rapping abc's to kindergarteners. What a sight see. On google.com/ig, I liked the word, joke and quote of the day. Very Cool! I'm going to keep on surfing. See you guys next week!

delicious.....

I have been spending this Tuesday evening in Dr. Cyrus class working on my tech blog. I spent the entire time investigating the delicious.com site which is a very good social bookmarking site. I was not aware of bookmarking sites in general, and "social" bookmarking sites in particular... needless to say, I am learning quite a bit.

In this day and age it is imperative to take measures to try to keep up with technology. In my case, I am starting to have diminished capacity for remembering things and so I have to learn ways to organize and manage my various websites, e-mail accounts, financial accounts, etc. I think this bookmarking website will help me organize the various websites that I use on a day-to-day basis.

Back to work now.....

Internet Tools

This is the pic I posted on my Geocities class website. Geocities offers so many things, it's pretty much up to the user how focused they want their aim. Of course our class aim is to see how various internet tools can help us in the classroom. Geocities has a section solely for web page development and it's quite easy to use. I chose the topic of web building for school and it just explained step by step what to do. The page itself had a portion where your picture would be uploaded. Around the picture were various text boxes that can be moved and resized to your liking. In each text box it gives you examples of what you probably should put in. It's pretty much up to the designer on how they want everything arranged. I'm still fiddling with this site but I'll keep you all posted.

Technology Review

This morning I began surfing through LearnOutLoud.com. An offshoot of that website is Teach Out Loud that allows you to "spread your knowledge to the world using audio and video". I took the guided tour at Learn Out Loud and started laughing when the guide said "Hello my name is Cef"..hmmmmmmmm he doesn't sound like Cef? It looks like this site has anything a teacher would need or want for their classroom! They offer a kids catalog as well as a free stuff section. It's a library of educational tools!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cool Site.....

I am in the computer lab this Saturday working on my tech sites. I have just stumbled on a really cool teacher technology site that has over fifteen specific programs that integrate technology into the classroom. I have been going one by one through these "tools" and quite impressed... I will leave it as a surprise until we share our results with the class.

Internet Tools

There are so many internet tools out there. I guess that I am so oblivious of things that are on the internet. I got to go explore many of the sites. I am amazed at teachertube, slideshare and learnoutloud. Wow! The things that you learn through the internet. I guess the sky's the limit! I'm getting a computer for my classroom today which was donated by DoDEA and can be hooked up to the internet. I am so excited on what I can teach my students. This class made me realize that anything is possible!

Internet Tools

There are so many different internet tools available it is probably hard to stick to only one. Some internet tools that I already use are flickr, facebook, myspace, and friendster. Those four websites are definitely tools for social networking. By taking ED638 I am definitely getting used to the idea of integrating technology into education. The major hurdle would be getting an actual computer in my class with an internet connection. Once that is done, I believe I can take it from there.

Internet Tools

Hafa Adai Classmates!

I am busy checking out Tripod.com and hoping I can find the time to create my own website with the tools at this site. As I spend everyday surfing the web it amazes me that almost any type of research can now be done in the comfort of your own home. I remember spending hours after school at the public library looking through book after book and encyclopedia in order to write reports. If you weren't finished before the library closed you were out of luck! The Internet has certainly been a time saver and I am eager to read everyone's reviews on the sites they have chosen.

Have a great weekend!

Faculty Central Finalization

Hello Everyone,

I finally decided to use the topic of fish and whales for my two activities. There is such a great abundance of life in the ocean, it's unbelievable! I'd have to say that living on Guam has afforded me the luxury of swimming with fish and other creatures in their natural environment. It is through the internet that people from far stretches of the world can still learn about creatures they may never see in their lifetime.

I did find a lot of interesting activities on the internet, but I decided to go with my own activities. I'm hoping i did it the right way.

Class Central

Good Evening Classmates,

I just got in from my daughters freshman open house. They are using technology that I am only beginning to learn about! It is truly amazing how much technology is incorporated into the classroom now.

I finished my project on Patricia Polacco and really enjoyed doing it. I was lucky enough to meet her when we lived in Washington state. She was a guest performer at my children's school. She is as vibrant in person as her stories!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Kate
Hi everyone,

Sorry to hear about Jay. Don't really know the details, but it sounds like he is leaving for medical procedures. Jay, hope you have successful treatment and a speedy recovery...

I am about done with my Class Central Project. I did a unit on the number Pi. It is truly amazing how many websites are devoted to that special number. There are all kinds of facts, activities, songs, posters, movies, jokes, greeting cards, games, etc. focusing on PI. It was quite the learning experience for me. It really made me realize the power of the internet for accessing information on something like this.

Hope we are able to spend time examining each others projects so we can learn from each other more about Class Central and using the internet.

See you soon.....

Faculty Central Finalization

What's up, Classmates! I hope everyone is well today. I uploaded my two activities and quizzes onto Faculty Central. I had a hard time choosing just two because there were so many to choose from. Doing the Faculty Central Activity was exciting. I was always apprehensive about technology until I started my graduate program with Language and Literacy. I now embrace everything that technology has to offer. See everyone soon! Cef

My Ocean Unit

Hello everyone,

I'm also having a difficult time choosing some activities I would like to use; they're all very useful for an online thematic unit. I'll probably narrow the focus down only because there are so many ocean creatures. See you all soon.

Just Checking in

Hello Classmates, I just wanted to check in before I have to leave you guys. One of my greatest gifts is reproduction. I am resigned to the inevitabilityof the task at hand because of its inherent value, so I am efficient, productive and leave my mark in the details. I am empowered by near success and my asset is the ability to just get it done. One of the key differences between what you have now and that which you may long for may be self esteem. Ultimately, altering your perceptions and priorities away from unfulfilled illusions to what has authentic value enables us to better identify or connect with what we really want, leading us to no longer dream it, but to get it. See everyone on my return to class.

Faculty Central Project

Hi everyone! I'm slowly, but surely doing the Faculty Central Project. I have so many activities to choose from that I just want to put everything. I never knew that Dr. Seuss had so many activities that covered all content areas. I hope that everyone is doing fine and having a great time with their own project. Take Care!

The Project

http://www.patriciapolacco.com/

Hello everyone!

I have been working on my Patricia Polacco unit. There are so many wonderful activities out there it has been hard for me to narrow it down to just a few. I hope it is ok Dr. Rivera if I have more than 2-3 activities. I am now finding ClassCentral fairly easy to work with compared to last week when I was a bit frustrated with it. Thank you again Dr. R. for taking the time to further explain it's functions to me. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's finished product!

Have a great week,

Kate

Voting Day.....

Hi Classmates,

Good class today... I like field trips, especially when it involves food. Good sandwiches, especially since I had not eaten anything since 7 a.m. Of course I voted for the only person I knew on the ballot (Dr. Rivera). I guess she likes having tons of stuff to do because I now that being a university professor is very time-consuming as it it....

I am working slowly but surely on my electronic classroom. Lots of trial and error, but hopefully I can finish this assignment by next Tuesday. It seems a little overwhelming right now, but I am glad Dr. Rivera kept is fairly simple given all of the options available on faculty central. I will try to investigate some of the other stuff once I get my two activities and two assignments done.

Good luck everyone....

Class Central Activity

Hello classmates! I had fun at the field trip today. I really wanted to vote for myself for vice-president, but I know that Dr. Rivera will do an excellent job for the association. Anyways, we did get 10 extra bonus points for voting for her. Sorry Kate! I am currently working on my activities for Dr. Seuss. I'll keep you guys posted. Have a great weekend! Yay! Payday Friday tomorrow.
I've decided to use the topic of ocean animals or creatures for my online classroom. I'm sure that my students can relate very well to sea creatures, only because a majority of them are from Guam, Philippines, and other Micronesian Islands. This is a topic that can transend the cultural differences.

Class Central project

Hi all,

I have been perusing the Class Central website and have been able to set up my course name. That is about as far as I have gotten though. I'm not quite sure what to do next but hopefully we'll touch on that in class tonight. See you all later on!

Weekly posts?

Just wondering if we are supposed to be posting new comments on this site each week.... If so, this is my "weekly posting".

I am still trying to sort out the four or five internet sites we are going to use. Seems a bit overwhelming right now, but hopefully I (we) will be able to become proficient with these sites in time. Good luck everyone.

Here we are!

I am slowly finding out that computers can play an integral role in the today's education and teachers can provide more resourceful ways to do things. Through the internet, students can communicate with each other like we are being to do now. we will be able to share experiences from different view points.
